THE JJR TEAM AND THE OUTLAWS HEAD NORTH OF THE BORDER TO CASTROL RACEWAY AS THEY BRING HOME A TOP TEN RUN ON NIGHT ONE OF THE OIL CITY CUP
EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA (August 28, 2015) – As the month of August winds down, Jason and the JJR #41 team headed North of the border to Edmonton to race with the World of Outlaws at Castrol Raceway. Upon arrival, they rolled the Priority Aviation Services, LLC/FK Rod Ends Maxim out of the hauler as 26 comprised the number of competitors in the pit area vying for the win on night one of the Oil City Cup.
After hot laps and opening ceremonies came to a close, it was time for two laps in time trials to set the heat race orders. When the Louisiana-born speedster hit the track aboard the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/ISC Racers Tape machine he circle the 3/8 mile oval in 13.733 seconds. Not content with that time he stayed on the hammer ad turned a quicker second lap at 13.719 seconds, which was 10th quick overall when qualifying was completed.
The heat race lineups were posted and the JJR entry would be in the first and fastest heat race by time trial laps. In fact, the Ragin’ Cajun would share the front row at the start with Shane Stewart. When the green flag waved it was a drag race into turn one for the top spot. Stewart arrived first with Jason right behind leading Logan Schuchart, quick timer David Gravel and Jason Sides around the racy oval. The running order didn’t change over the ten lap distance and Jason brought the Fischer Body Shop/Maxim Racing car home in the runner-up position to advance directly to the evening’s main event.
Just missing out on a transfer spot to the Dash in his heat race, put Jason and the JJR #41 on the outside of row five for the 30 lap A-Main. With the fans in the stands and the drivers securing themselves in the cockpit of their sprint cars it was time to go racing! Jason rolled into his tenth starting position and pulled down one last time of his Crow Enterprizes safety belts. He flipped the shield down on his Shell Shock custom painted Arai Helmet and was ready to get dirty. The green flag waved and Shane Stewart was showing the way. But the green flag was quickly replaced by the yellow caution flag early, which unfortunately was an early sign of things to come on this night at Castrol Raceway. When the racing resumed, Stewart continued to lead and Jason methodically and patiently made kept himself comfortably in the top ten. The Cajun Sensation would advance as far forward as sixth, but the positions between fifth and twelfth were changing each lap around the race track. At the front of the field, Stewart relinquished the lead to Joey Saldana on lap 17 but the two drivers continued in a spirited battle for the top spot. When the top two approached lapped cars, Donny Schatz slipped by both of them on lap 24 and led the remaining distance. Jason wheeled his Maxim home with his third consecutive top ten run in the forty one. A great job for the driver and team of the JJR #41 as it was the first time they had seen this track.
Jason and the JJR team will be back at Castrol Raceway on Saturday night for the Oil City Cup finale. Come out and catch up with the Ragin’ Cajun and the boys!
