AN EVENTFUL AND CHALLENGING NIGHT OF RACING AT HUSET’S SPEEDWAY ENDS WITH A 23RD PLACE FINISH FOR SWINDELL AND THE BOBBI AND JASON JOHNSON OWNED TEAM

BRANDON, SOUTH DAKOTA (June 14, 2015) – After a late night at Knoxville on Saturday night, Sammy Swindell and the JJR team made their way through the fog to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota on Sunday where they found beautiful blue skies broken up only by puffy white clouds and the sun which made for a great night of racing. There were 31 sprint cars lining the pit area ready to compete in World of Outlaw (WoO) competition.

Time trials were the first order of business on the night’s race card. They drew a high number, so Sammy pushed out late for his individual qualifying laps in the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Hoosier Racing Tires #41 Maxim. Huset’s Speedway is a fast 1/3 mile, high banked bullring where things happen fast. In his first lap around the speedway he circled the high banks in 13.046 seconds, but on the second lap the car spun and no time was recorded for the forty one, so the first lap time stood which put the team behind the eight ball for the remainder of the night.

In heat race action, the Priority Aviation Services/Jonestown KOA Maxim was starting from the eleventh starting spot in a stacked first heat race with names like McMahan, Kaeding, Schatz, Pittman, McCarl, Madsen and Huset’s current point leader Dusty Zomer. Paul McMahan would lead the high powered field around the oval with Tim Kaeding giving chase. Sammy meanwhile was charging from the back and he had his elbows up making his move forward. When McMahan took the checkers on the last of eight laps, Sammy made his way up to the seventh position, which was just one spot shy of an automatic transfer spot.

Relegated to the back of the 12 lap Last Chance Showdown, Swindell and the team knew they had to get their night train moving to garner one of the final transfer positions into the A-Main from their 13th starting position. Anyone who knows this driver and this team know they do not like being the caboose. Kerry Madsen and Logan Schuchart were on the front row and set a quick pace when the lights illuminated green around the track. Sammy was on the move too from the back of the pack. He moved into the top ten early and kept his Kistler Engine purring as he kept picking off positions and moving up the scoring pylon. He had the Priority Aviation Services entry flying. There was no second in command as this rocket ship only needed one pilot. As the laps continued to click down, Sammy was still on the move and racing hard as he moved into the top five. Schuchart would go on to take the win over Madsen, with Swindell trucking home in the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) #41 entry in the fifth position to advance on to the feature.

The team’s long night would not get any easier as Sammy, the three-time WoO champion, was again starting from the final row in the 35 lap feature event from the 23rd starting spot. The JJR team worked hard all night to get the car better for their legendary driver and speed artist. When the MVT/Dissolvalloy Frac Ball Revolution #41 Maxim rolled onto the inside of row twelve it was go time. The fans were excited to see some great racing and the drivers were obliged to give them a great show. The racing at the front of the pack was fast and furious as Swindell had his hands full a little further back. He was making some progress, but a late spin moved him back to the rear again as he recorded a 23rd place finish on the night in a race that was won by Donny Schatz. After the race, Jason commented, “Wow! What an eventful night.” He continued, “I am proud of all of the hard work our JJR team did tonight. It was a great effort by all involved. We will keep digging and get the car better for Tuesday night at Granite City Speedway.”
