SWINDELL CAPTURES A SEVENTH PLACE FINISH IN FIRST EVER VISIT TO CRAWFORD COUNTY SPEEDWAY IN DENISON, IOWA IN WORLD OF OUTLAW COMPETITION

DENISON, IOWA (June 12, 2015) – The World of Outlaws (WoO) made their first ever appearance at the Crawford County Speedway in Denison, Iowa on Friday night. After a few days back home in Rocky Mount, Missouri with family and friends, the JJR team and Sammy Swindell were eager to get back on the gas in the Priority Aviation Services/Fischer Body Shop #41 Maxim. The skies were overcast and the track was very heavy, but the fans were ready to see some racing. There were 34 cars in the pit area at the 3/8 mile semi-banked speedway ready to get the show started.

This night would be a first as the Outlaws rolled out their new two-flight qualifying format for the first time. Jason and the JJR team were hard at work getting the car ready for Slammin’ Sammy to power up the Kistler Engine under the hood. He was slated to be the 16th car to go out in Flight B, which was 33rd overall. When he hit the track he pounded the loud pedal and got the Priority Aviation Services #41 machine flying at top speed. His first lap timed in at 13.128 seconds.  Not letting up on the speed button, he maneuvered through the fast lane and improved his time the second go round with a lap of 13.031 seconds, which was second quickest in Flight B and the fourth quickest overall on the night.

The track was fast and narrow for each of the heat races. Sammy would be lining the Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT)/Kenny’s Components Maxim up on the outside of row two beside Brian Brown in the fourth heat race. Brent Marks and Shane Stewart would lead the field to the green from the front row. Stewart took command of the top spot with Swindell wheelin’ the forty one to the outside of Marks to seize the runner up position. Stewart was a good distance ahead on the lightning fast racing surface and took the heat race win ahead of Swindell’s #41, Marks’ #19M, Brown’s #21 with Ian Madsen coming home in the fifth and final qualifying spot in his #18.

Action was then delayed when Mother Nature visited . . . again! There was no precipitation showing on the radar, but it was gently misting and drizzling making the racing surface wet, which prevented racing at speed. Sammy and the JJR team patiently waited as the track crew tried to recover the surface as the “4” pill was pulled in the Dash Draw, which meant the three-time WoO Champion was slated to start on the pole of the Dash event aboard the Dissolvalloy/K&N Filters #41 Maxim. When the field lined up, the Bartlett, Tennessee resident was focused and eager to get moving at high speeds in the JJR entry from the front row. Kerry Madsen was alongside him on the front row and took command of the lead position when the green flag waved. Sammy raced hard and followed him across the finish line in the runner up spot after six high speed laps around Crawford County Speedway.

For the 30 lap feature event, Sammy pulled to the outside of row one in the Valvoline/KSE Racing Products Maxim. Pole sitter Kerry Madsen and Swindell split apart so they could form the WoO’s famous four-wide salute to the fans. It was race time! The 24 car field was loaded with talent and each driver wanted to capture the victory on this night in the Hawkeye state as they aligned two-by-two in each row. The green flag was unfurled and the engines roared through the air. Madsen used the outside of the speedway to take the lead at the start. Swindell was on his bumper as the leaders were setting a torrid pace. They were catching the back end of the field within five laps as they began to work through lapped traffic. Swindell was consistently putting four wheels over the cushion as he made his way through turns one and two. Swindell set his sights on Kerry Madsen and started to close the gap at the midway point. Joey Saldana and Shane Stewart were pushing Swindell hard for his spot. The top four were running a fast and competitive race on a very narrow race track. Swindell jumped the cushion through turns three and four and lost two spots. He stayed up on the wheel and when Shane Stewart charged under the checkered flags for the win he was followed by Kerry Madsen, Joey Saldana, Donny Schatz, Brad Sweet, Danny Lasoski and Sammy Swindell bringing the Priority Aviation Services #41 Maxim home in the seventh spot. A top ten run for the forty one team and their driver from Tennessee.
