AN 8TH PLACE FINISH IN SOCAL SHOWDOWN AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY ABOARD THE WACO METAL/K&N FILTERS #41 MAXIM FOR JASON MEYERS

PERRIS, CALIFORNIA (April 18, 2015) – Philip and the JJR team, made the 270 mile trek to Southern California, affectionately known as SoCal to the locals, to race at Perris Auto Speedway’s famed half mile, semi-banked oval in the Waco Metal/K&N Filters #41 Maxim. This was the last race on the spring swing through California for the World of Outlaws (WoO), and Clovis, California native Jason Meyers would again be behind the wheel of the JJR entry to close out the West Coast swing.

There were only 17 winged sprint cars at Perris Auto Speedway to race, so the World of Outlaws implemented their new format for fields that have less than 21 cars for the first time. After time trials, there were only two heat races with the winner and top qualifier in each transferring to the Dash. Then, there were two more qualifier races, the fields were set by heat race finishing position, where the winner and top qualifier in each of the qualifiers also transferred to the Dash.

In time trials, Meyers pulled the 44 pill which put him 13th in the qualifying order for time trials. He climbed aboard the Priority Aviation Services/KSE Racing Products Maxim and circle the oval in 15.112 seconds, which was 12th quick overall.

In the second heat race, the former two-time WoO champion, pulled to the outside of row three beside the other Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) sponsored entry, Kraig Kinser. Front row starters, David Gravel and Kerry Madsen, led the field to the green with Gravel taking the win after eight laps around the speedway. Meyers brought the JJR entry home fifth.

In the second qualifier, Meyers would start on the inside of row two with Kinser’s #11k to his outside. Madsen would take the win ahead of Joey Saldana, Meyers, and Kinser with Shane Golobic rounding out the top five.

For the 30 lap feature event, Meyers would start from the 12th starting position on the grid. After their four-wide salute to the fans, Kerry Madsen would bring the field forward as he led the first two laps before surrendering it to a very fast Joey Saldana. With Saldana setting a scalding pace up front, Meyers was on the hammer and had his elbows up in the Valvoline/Jonestown KOA #41. He was wheeling the JJR car forward and catching the attention of those in attendance. Up front, Saldana was still leading, but Paul McMahan was hungry from the runner-up spot, and not for an In-and-Out Burger, in the CJB Motorsports #51 entry. He wanted to top spot on the leader board. McMahan would take the lead on lap 29 and led the last lap to take the win ahead of Saldana, Donny Schatz, and Shane Stewart with Brad Sweet rounding out the top five. Meyers, aboard the JJR entry, finished in the 8th spot which earned him the KSE Hard Charger Award for advancing four spots.

After the race, Jason and Bobbi Johnson along with their sponsorship partners, expressed their sincere appreciation to Jason Meyers for not only filling in to finish out the West Coast swing following Johnson’s accident at Placerville, but also to Meyers and his wife Robin and their family for opening up their home and hearts for the team during a time of need. Johnson explained, “I want to thank Jason Meyers and his family so much. It was really an honor and privilege to have him behind the wheel of the JJR #41.” He continued, “He not only drove the car, but also taught us a lot about racing with the best and life. It was truly an honor to work with the two-time World of Outlaw champion. He and his family are first class.”
